If you are playing the base game, there will only be one UserData folder.

UserData: This folder contains your neighborhood, along with any lots and Sims you have in it.

The two folders you probably want to back up are: Most of the folders you see here do not contain your saved game data, but the core game files.

In the image below, the game was saved in a non-default location. If you are using a 64-bit computer, this directory will be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims. Chances are you're only interested in backing up your saved games and your custom content, since all of the core game files are replaced when you reinstall the game.Īssuming you saved the game in the default location, this will be located in C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims. Place your own Sims or play with some of mine.

This way you can use the save again without having to redownload.

Once you’ve got the save opened, make sure you “save as” and create a new file for your own gameplay.

You’ll see it pop up with me and my cat as the preview family. Just make sure you don’t have that slot number already. You should probably choose something higher.

If it says you already have a file of that name, change the slot number.

Download the file, unzip, and place files in Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Saves.

Make a backup of your Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Saves folder.
